Here, you can learn about life in the marshes and see a normally inaccessible world that protects its secrets. The Orava-Nowy Targ Peat Bogs are located southwest of Nowy Targ, within the municipalities of Nowy Targ, Czarny Dunajec and Jabłonka. They are surrounded by picturesque mountain scenery – the Tatra Mountains, the Beskids, including the Gorce Mountains and, not far away, the Pieniny Mountains. A good starting point for the bog area is Czarny Dunajec and the surrounding villages. Two sections of footpaths and cycle tracks with accompanying infrastructure, which are further sections of the historical-cultural-natural cycle route around the Tatra Mountains, are located in the region. Educational boards have been set up along the path to provide information about the natural values of the area. The paths allow you to travel through the unique area and learn about the structure of the peatland and its natural regeneration process. The cycle path connects the multimedia exhibition of the peat bogs in Chochołów with the area of the Orava-Nowy Targ Peat Bogs and enables cyclists to reach Chochołów directly. It is well worth a visit to see the unusual marshland wildlife: peat mosses, bog pine, and scarce species such as the dragonfly called sedge meadow, black grouse and lesser spotted eagles. Wild boar, lynx, and wolves live here; occasionally, even a bear can been seen.
