Ścieżka edukacyjna Torfowisko Baligówka Czarny Dunajec

Educational trail Baligówka Peat Bog Czarny Dunajec

Widok z lotu ptaka na rzadko rosnące drzewa na torfowiskach Orawsko-Nowotarskich. Widać między innymi białe pnie brzóz.

34-470 Czarny Dunajec Tourist region: Tatry i Podhale

It is a walking educational trail with 13 stops. Specially prepared information boards show the peat formation process and the most interesting plant and animal species.

The length of the route is 3 kilometres. The High Peat Bogs, through which the trail runs, have been included in the European Natura 2000 protected area system. The Baligówka Peat Bog is located in the Orawsko-Nowotarska Basin, between Czarny Dunajec and Piekielnik. Its history dates back 11,000 years. Until the 1950s, peat was mined at the location of the nature trail, so the size of the bog is much smaller than it was a few hundred years ago. Today, this is forbidden, so you can enjoy the rich, bog-specific fauna and flora. Many rare species are found here. It is worth spending a little more time here, as beavers have created naturally beautiful bodies of water near the educational trail. The Educational Farm – Baligówka Shepherd’s Hut is an exciting attraction right on the path. The hosts hold didactic classes on the history of shepherding in Podhale, talk about what’s it’s like to be a professional shepherd and show how oscypek is made. You can also buy regional cheeses there.

Note. It is advisable to take good footwear with you, the terrain is waterlogged, especially if it has rained a few days before.

Access

To reach this path, go to the ‘Baligówka’ forest heading towards Piekielnik. Before the forest, you have to turn right. After walking a few hundred metres, we reach the parking area where the first stop is located.
