The main artillery fort No. 52 'Borek' was built in the second half of the 19th century as part of the fortifications of the Kraków Fortress. One of the defensive facilities located south of Kraków forms part of the Kraków Fortress, a unique fortification heritage on a European scale.
Its historical, cultural, ecological, and utilitarian values make it a monument worth exploring.

The Fort was restored as part of a project co-financed by the European Union from ERDF funds under the Regional Operational Programme of the Małopolskie Voivodeship 2014–2020.
After extensive renovation, the building is fulfilling new social and cultural functions through the restoration and adaptation of the preserved parts of the Fort, which are creating a cultural institution space – the Podgórze Cultural Centre and the Polish Song Library. The Centre, with its unique blend of cultural and educational programmes, is a beacon of learning and creativity. It uses its resources to arrange museum lessons, workshops, and events, thereby supporting education and the upbringing system in schools in Kraków and the region, and is open to collaboration. Visitors can go on the historical and didactic route that has been created inside the Fort. It leads, among other things, through parts of the barracks, posterns, caponiers, the artillery rampart, and takes visitorsthrough a three-level underground crossing. Visitors can also visit the reconstructed soldiers' hall.
