The armoured fort Jugowice ('Łapianka') was built in1897–1898. It was stripped of its modern armament during the Nazi occupation, and after WWII, it deteriorated over the course of the several decades that it housed a fruit processing plant.
The Fort was restored and revitalised as part of two complementary projects co-financed by the European Union from ERDF funds under the Regional Operational Programme of the Małopolskie Voivodeship 2014-2020.
By restoring tangible cultural heritage, transforming and incorporating it into a new social role by adapting the preserved parts of Fort Łapianka, a museum and the only one of its kind in Poland – the Scout Movement Centre – was opened on the site. It is a modern, multimedia cultural institution based on a historical context, intergenerational dialogue and intercultural dialogue, the independence heritage of the scouting movement, being an important showcase for scouting, Kraków, and Poland.
The former barracks building is an exhibition area relating to the beginnings of the scouting movement in Poland. The revitalised fort encourages visitors to explore and learn more about the fortifications and facilities of the Kraków Fortress. The Museum's activities aim to raise awareness within the community and promote proper civic attitudes, where scouting themes are presented in an innovative way.
