Rafting down the Dunajec on the flisacka raft is an amazing encounter with beautiful fauna and flora. A trip through a narrow ravine full of sharp bends is undeniably one of the most interesting attractions of the Pieniny National Park.

The flisacka raft can carry 10 to 12 people at a time, plus two flisak raftsmen at the front and rear. At this point, it is necessary to explain who flisak is. Namely, it is a very prestigious profession and not easy to get. Such a person must come from one of the five towns in Pieniny: Szczawnica, Krościenko nad Dunajcem, Czorsztyn, Sromowce Niżnych and Sromowce Wyżne. Additionally, they must undergo a 3-year internship under the supervision of a master, pass the exam, and then complete another 3-year internship, which allows them to obtain the title of a flisacki master.

The route of the rafting down the Dunajec river looks as follows: at the beginning of the canoeing trip, the Red Monastery is located on the Slovak side, with time the buildings disappear and the panorama of Trzy Korony spreads, and then you swim among high limestone rocks covered with lush vegetation. The peak definitely worth paying attention to are: Sedem Mnichów and Sokolica, also known as the mother of the Pieniny Mountains. The route starts in the Sromowce-Kąty marina or in Sromowce Niżne and ends in Szczawnica or Krościenko. The trip takes 2 to 3 hours depending on the weather and water conditions. The route runs for 18 or 23 km, depending on the variant chosen. The entire route is accompanied by rafting stories and jokes. The rafting season lasts from April 1 to October 31. It is worth traversing the Pieniny Gorge in summer or spring and colourful autumn, because both views are spectacular. Flisak raftsmen sail every day except the first day of Easter and the feast of Corpus Christi. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket offices at both marinas. A great souvenir of rafting down the Dunajec are the photos that can be ordered from the flisak raftsman for a small fee. Parking, restaurants and toilets are available on site. It is worth adding that the flisak rafting trip is completely safe, thanks to the stable structure of the raft and the experience of flisak raftsmen. It is therefore an ideal attraction for families with children.
