The Chamber of Cold War and Socialism Nowy Targ
At the turn of the 1950s and 1960s, a new building was added to the existing building of the Presidium of the Powiat National Council. Its cellars was supposed to house the Commanding Headquarters of the Municipal Civil Defence Inspectorate.
In the event of war or other emergency, it was from this place that the city office was to be run and the civil defence formation operations were to be coordinated. The rooms of the shelter were classified as a type II hiding place and equipped with steel doors protecting only against bomb explosions. In order to ensure proper working conditions in the event of an armed conflict or other threat, the headquarters was equipped with means of communication enabling contact with other offices and civil defence units. In the event of a tight closing of the steel door, the supply of fresh air was provided by a special ventilation system equipped with appropriate filters, which, despite many years that have passed, remains functional even today. In the event of collapse of the building, the designers also provided an emergency exit leading to the yard of the today's City Hall.
