St. Rafał Kalinowski

Zamyślony mężczyzna w habicie.
Stemming from Vilnius, Józef Kalinowski (1835–1907) was a tsarist officer who joined the Polish January Uprising, for which he was sentenced to death, and his sentence was then turned into exile to Siberia. Upon his return from the exile in 1877, he joined the Order of the Discalced Carmelites and took on the name of Rafał. He founded a monastery in Wadowice. Canonized by Pope John Paul II, he is remembered on November 20. His relics are placed in the Czerna Sanctuary.
