Mr and Mrs Tomek's house was always full of animals. Local residents regularly delivered injured, sick or young wild animals to this kind of asylum. Among the house's most famous tenants are the fox Patrycy 'Twelfth', the starling Srajek (but officially called 'Rajtek'), the marten Kunegunda, the polecat Kajetan, the roe deer Kozia and Basia. And also ravens and wild ducks. Several of them later lived for many years in the garden of Mr and Mrs Tomek, thanks to successful treatment.
Observation of the natural world, a passion for collecting, and a desire to pass on knowledge have made Mr and Mrs Tomek's collection truly remarkable. Birds dominate, as more than 200 species have been collected here. The colourful butterflies and hunting trophies are also impressive. The museum features a mock bat cave nearly six metres long. The museum floor is made of glass, and underneath is an interactive meadow with models of plants, reptiles and amphibians. Thanks to modern interactive stations and multimedia, here we can listen to the sounds of animals or watch a film about their natural behaviour. The fact that the information here is presented in a modern way makes it more digestible for young people, making the museum a popular place to visit.
A novelty of the museum is the submarine (bathyscaphe). She has a special rudder that the captain uses, seats for passengers and a large cinema screen so you can take a cruise through the waters of the Biała River and see what's at the bottom of it.
One of Dr Tomek's most important conservation efforts was the cessation of sandstone mining in the 'Petrified City' Nature Reserve.
