On the course: the most picturesque areas of the Dunajec valley with views of the Beskids, Pieniny and Tatras

Over 200 kilometres of unforgettable views are offered by Małopolska’s new cycle route, VeloDunajec. Built in accordance with the highest European standards, it has excellent markings and bicycle service points [miejsca obsługi rowerzystów, or MOR]. It crosses the picturesque areas of the Dunajec valley, with views of several mountain ranges: the Tatras, Gorce Mountains, Beskids, Pieniny and Pogórze. While following its course, cyclists can reach the historical Church of St Michael the Archangel in Dębno Podhalańskie, the medieval Dunajec Castle in Niedzica, Pieniny National Park with the Dunajec Gorge, the pedestrian andcyclist footbridge over the Dunajec (which takes you across the Poland-Slovakia border), the health resort in Szczawnica, the Sądecki Ethnographic Park, and the Monument to the Heroes of September 1939 in Biskupice Radłowskie, among other sites. In the area of Lake Czorsztyn, VeloDunajec will form part of the route built within the land management project around the water reservoir. From Stary Sącz to Ostrów it will overlap with EuroVelo11; while in Wietrzychowice it will join the Vistula Cycle Route. Altogether the route will be 237 kilometres long, starting in Zakopane and finishing in Wietrzychowice. Despite the still unfinished construction works, VeloDunajec in its present state is already an excellent option for spending leisure time, not only for seasoned cyclists, but also for recreational cyclists, families with children, seniors, i.e. for absolutely everyone who wants to enjoy active leisure time outdoors, far from the urban hustle and bustle, surrounded by nature.
